{"id":550,"date":"2021-02-05T20:51:55","date_gmt":"2021-02-05T20:51:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/project.journalism.torontomu.ca\/jrn-305-2021\/?p=550"},"modified":"2021-02-05T20:51:56","modified_gmt":"2021-02-05T20:51:56","slug":"ontario-report-released-an-overview","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/project.journalism.torontomu.ca\/jrn-305-2021\/2021\/02\/05\/ontario-report-released-an-overview\/","title":{"rendered":"Ontario Report Released: An Overview"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Almost one month since the second lockdown, Ontario has released a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ontario.ca\/page\/how-ontario-is-responding-covid-19#foot-1\">report updating<\/a> the current COVID-19 cases and state.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The report highlights the total COVID-19 numbers since January 14, 2020. 275,330 confirmed cases were reported in the past year. with an additional 1,670 the day after the reports\u2019 release. A total of 6,438 deaths, with 10 being reported for health care workers in long-term care homes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Below is a graph with the total confirmed cases reported each month since the first case reported in January 2020.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"flourish-embed flourish-chart\" data-src=\"visualisation\/5203474\"><script src=\"https:\/\/public.flourish.studio\/resources\/embed.js\"><\/script><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>The report does warn, however, that there is a \u2018slight overestimation of today&#8217;s overall case numbers\u201c due to Toronto Public Health reporting 124 addtional cases that were not fully migrated during their system change.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The daily average cases in Ontario in the past 20 days has been 1,500 cases a day, which is a drop from the pre-lockdown average of 3,003 per day.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Below is a graph showing the daily COVID-19 cases within the last 3 weeks. A sudden drop can be seen after the beginning of the second lockdown.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"flourish-embed flourish-chart\" data-src=\"visualisation\/5202980\"><script src=\"https:\/\/public.flourish.studio\/resources\/embed.js\"><\/script><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>The decreasing cases due to the second lockdown signify a possibility to return to normalcy soon, especially as the COVID-19 vaccines begin to be administered.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/covid-19.ontario.ca\/covid-19-vaccines-ontario?gclid=CjwKCAiAouD_BRBIEiwALhJH6JHGEG4y7eTLIwk3h5kPN-NYwcJXPLtc3mMbF72hvuBKXnjhymBJcxoCqvYQAvD_BwE#covid-19-immunization-program\">Ontario reports<\/a> a total of 7,694 vaccines have been administered just this Friday, 362,749 total doses administered and 87,831 people fully vaccinated.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thestar.com\/news\/gta\/2021\/02\/05\/ontario-reports-1670-new-covid-19-cases-45-more-deaths.html\">According to Health Minister Christine Elliot<\/a>, 667 vaccines have been administered in Toronto, 317 in Peel, 125 in York Region and 100 in Halton.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Vaccines are targeted to hopefully be available to the general public by August 2021.&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Almost one month since the second lockdown, Ontario has released a report updating the current COVID-19 cases and state.&nbsp; The report highlights the total COVID-19 numbers since January 14, 2020. 275,330 confirmed cases were reported in the past year. with an additional 1,670 the day after the reports\u2019 release.
