{"id":580,"date":"2021-02-05T23:05:41","date_gmt":"2021-02-05T23:05:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/project.journalism.torontomu.ca\/jrn-305-2021\/?p=580"},"modified":"2021-02-05T23:05:42","modified_gmt":"2021-02-05T23:05:42","slug":"super-bowl-lv-what-team-will-america-be-rooting-for-on-sunday","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/project.journalism.torontomu.ca\/jrn-305-2021\/2021\/02\/05\/super-bowl-lv-what-team-will-america-be-rooting-for-on-sunday\/","title":{"rendered":"Super Bowl LV; what team will America be rooting for on Sunday?"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>For the first time in his career, Tom Brady enters the Super Bowl as the&#8230; underdog?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In a pandemic year that has seen the most upside downs of upside downs happen, one of the most notable in the sporting world has certainly been watching Tom Brady suit up for a team other than the New England Patriots of the National Football League.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the 55th edition of one of the most coveted competitions in all of sports, Tom Brady and his Tampa Bay Buccaneers will face the juggernaut Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LV.\u00a0 Brady, 43, who is actively regarded in conversations to be the greatest American football quarterback of all time will go head-to-head for his seventh ring against the likes of Patrick Mahomes, KC\u2019s rising star who was recently rewarded the largest contract in North American sports history and the apparent heir to Brady\u2019s quarterback.\u00a0 He looks to capture his second Super Bowl win in a row.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In a championship game that carries storylines galore, one very prevalent one is that for the first time in what feels like forever, Tom Brady and his team walk into this game as underdogs.   Even so, Bucs head coach Bruce Arians says the team won&#8217;t rest on their laurels.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIf you\u2019re not looking for new things every year, you\u2019re falling behind,\u201d the 68-year-old Arians said. \u201cYou can look at what some other people do. But if it really doesn\u2019t match your personnel, it\u2019s not a fit for you.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Although they are competitors however, Mahomes has echoed the respect he has for the veteran GOAT Brady.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;The way he&#8217;s able to dissect defenses before the snap is something that I truly admire,&#8221; Mahomes said of Brady. &#8220;I&#8217;m trying to get to that level &#8230; As I continue in my career, I&#8217;m trying to do whatever I can to watch the tape on him because he&#8217;s doing it the right way, and you can tell by &#8230; the rings on his fingers.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With KC being the three-point favourite, it seems very unanimous amongst many of the U.S.\u2019s major cities that the baton will be passed from Brady\u2019s #12 down to Mahomes\u2019 #15.\u00a0 Data pulled from <a href=\"http:\/\/mlive.com\">mlive.com<\/a> shows at least 33 states to 17 in favour of the Chiefs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"flourish-embed flourish-map\" data-src=\"visualisation\/5204144\"><script src=\"https:\/\/public.flourish.studio\/resources\/embed.js\"><\/script><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>For Tom Brady, this is his record-10th Super Bowl game, but Old Man Brady doesn&#8217;t feel like he&#8217;s ready to quit just yet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;I think I&#8217;ll know when it&#8217;s time,&#8221; Brady said, of retiring. &#8220;I don&#8217;t know when it&#8217;s time, but I think I&#8217;ll know &#8230; When I put it all out there and I feel like I can&#8217;t do that anymore and I can&#8217;t commit to the team in the way that the team needs me, then I think that&#8217;s probably time to walk away.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Time will tell who will prevail, but Super Bowl LV is setting up to be one of the most entertaining moments of the sport yet.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>For the first time in his career, Tom Brady enters the Super Bowl as the&#8230; underdog?
